Enfield Karate Club

Enfield Karate Club is dedicated to providing good quality karate training to men women and children of all ages. As well as self defence, good health and character improvement are the clubs main goals.

About Karate
Karate is system of self defence and physical exercise originally developed on the island of Okinawa. The word is formed from the Japanese words Kara (empty) and te (hand) meaning that it's practitioners use their hands and feet as striking weapons.

Shotokan
Shotokan is a style of karate developed by an Okinawan teacher Gichin Funakoshi who introduced it to Japan in 1922. Shotokan has become the most widely practised style of karate in the world.

The Benefits of Karate Training
Karate can be practised by men women and children of all ages. Karate training will improve health, self confidence and overall well-being. Parents and teachers regularly report on the improvement in school work and behaviour of children who train regularly.

Whats Involved
Training is structured into three sections Kihon (basic techniques), Kata (formal exercises) and Kumite (sparring). Each section has different levels of complexity to suit the different grades of students. Every 3 months a grading is held, these are not compulsory but are the way you proceed to a different coloured belt.

Adult Classes
Enfield Karate Club, which used to be at Bullsmoor Lane is one of the countries oldest established karate clubs, and has been teaching karate for over 30 years.

Practically everyone teaching karate in the area has been through it's doors at one time or another.
The club runs beginners courses for adults, and also welcomes more advanced karateka of any style who are serious about their training. Adult classes run for the traditional 90 minutes.

Children's Training
The club has been running specialized children's classes since 1990 (formerly at Lea Valley High School) and takes children from the age of 6yrs onwards.
Children's classes are run completely separately from adult classes and run for 60 minutes.

The Club instructors help the children enjoy their training in a happy, safe + disciplined environment. The classes are run by Paul Shephard who is a CRB checked registered instuctor and a parent himself with 3 chidren who train at the club. Parents may train with the children if they wish.
