FAQ's
Q: How old do children have to be before starting training?
A: Around 6 yrs old with at least 1 year at school.
Q: Can Parents train with the children?
A: Yes at our Saturday class which is a mixed session.
Q:Am I too old to train in karate?
A: People can train at any age, we have many people in our classes in their 60's and some in their 70's.
Q:Do I need to be fit to train in karate?
A:No not necessarily, but your fitness will improve as you progress in your training.
Q: Will karate training help me defend myself?
A: Yes, but you need to train hard. Many people just do not put enough time and effort into their training to make any difference at all, indeed many learn just enough to be dangerous (to themselves!). If you are serious about your training and train hard, your self defence skills will improve, but there is no quick fix.
Q: What clothes will I need to wear?
A: Anything thats loose and let's you move freely.
Q: What style do you practise?
A: Our roots are in shotokan, but now we have a more eclectic training regime which includes many Okinawan training drills and kata's.
Q: How many times a week should I train?
A: You can train up to 3 times a week in Enfield, the more you train the quicker you will progress. You should aim to train a minimum of twice a week.
Q: If I come from another Club can I keep my grade?
A: Yes, but you will need to learn our syllabus before you could grade again. If you are a dan grade you should line up at the end of our dan grades no matter what rank you are.
Q: Do I have to pay a membership fee?
A: Yes, you have to buy a License every year which also gives you some insurance.
Q: Will I get injured training in karate?
A: you must expect to get a few bumps and bruises, but we have never had a serious injury at the Club.
Q: When can I take a grading?
A: Gradings are held 3 times a year. You can normally take your 1st grading after 3 Months.
Q: How long will it take me to get to Black Belt?
A: It depends how much you train, 4 to 5 years is average.
Q: Is getting a Black Belt the end of my training?
A: Nope, it's just the beginning.
